Botox and Xeomin

Overview

Botox and Xeomin are two brands of injectables consisting of botulinum toxin type A, which targets one of the underlying causes of wrinkles: the repeated facial muscle contractions that express emotions. When you frown, concentrate, or even laugh, the facial muscles contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. Injections of Botox and Xeomin work by blocking the nerve signals to the targeted muscles. Without a signal, the muscles cannot contract. This in turn smooths out the overlying wrinkles.

Botox and Xeomin Initial Consultation

Before a Botox or Xeomin treatment at Enhance® Medical Center, you will confer with one of our specialists, who will analyze your face and define focal areas for your treatment. Our specialist will then inject these overactive muscles to temporarily reduce activity. The process takes about 10 minutes.

We offer complimentary numbing for your comfort; however, some patients report that being injected with Botox and Xeomin feels just like a pinch. After treatment, you will soon see visible smoothing of your crow’s feet and frown lines.

How Do Botox & Xeomin Differ From Fillers?

Both Botox/Xeomin and fillers smooth and refresh the face, but these FDA-approved injectables differ in a few key ways. Botox and Xeomin are great for targeting crease points and work by paralyzing the muscles. Fillers are best for deep lines present even when facial muscles contract. While both Botox/Xeomin and fillers are commonly used together, they work differently and are used on different lines. Fillers last about nine to 12 months, while BOTOX and Xeomin typically wear off after three to six months.

Botox & Xeomin FAQ

Are Botox and Xeomin safe?

Yes, Botox and Xeomin are safe. They are both approved by the FDA to treat frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.

Is treatment painful?

Treatment with Botox and Xeomin is not painful. Prior to treatment, our team will numb the target areas with a topical anesthetic to ensure your complete comfort. Some patients do report feeling a slight pinch during treatment, and soreness after treatment.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects are minimal and temporary with Botox and Xeomin. These include mild swelling and redness, both of which subside a few days after treatment.

How soon will I see my results? How long do results last?

Most patients begin to notice results within one to three days after treatment. It may take up to a week for the full results and effects to become visible. Results with Botox last three to four months, while results with Xeomin can last up to six months. The effects wear off once the body naturally absorbs the product.

How do I maintain my results?

Because results are temporary, we recommend scheduling repeat treatments to maintain your youthful appearance. Our team will recommend a treatment schedule upon evaluating your aesthetic needs and goals.

What are the benefits of Botox and Xeomin?

Botox and Xeomin offer a number of benefits. As non-surgical treatments, Botox and Xeomin do not require surgery, incisions, lengthy doctor visits or extended downtime. Because Botox and Dysport don’t require incisions (only injections), patients get the benefits of a wrinkle-free appearance without scarring, which can be a concern with more invasive procedures. And compared to surgical procedures like facelift and eyelid surgery, the price of Botox and Xeomin is extremely reasonable.

Can Botox and Xeomin be combined with other treatments?

Yes, Botox and Xeomin can be combined with other cosmetic treatments to achieve more comprehensive results. The two injectables are commonly combined with non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers and laser skin resurfacing. Botox and Xeomin can also be used to maintain the results of facelift, eyelid surgery or other surgical procedures. View our introductory package for more details about facial injectable combinations.

How much does treatment with Botox and Xeomin cost?

The exact cost of Botox and Xeomin varies patient to patient. Factors like the number of injections needed and treatment size will influence the final cost of your treatment. Our team can give you an accurate cost estimate during a personal consultation.

How can Botox help with migraines?

Some chronic migraine sufferers have found success relieving their pain with Botox. The injectable’s healing power was first noticed by patients who sought Botox for their wrinkles and then recognized a decrease in their migraines. Because Botox blocks nerve signals, scientists believe that it prevents the transmission of pain signals to the brain. Although Botox is unlikely to stop a patient’s migraines altogether, it has been found to significantly reduce the frequency and severity of their migraines.

How can Botox contour the jaw?

If you have an oversized square jawline, Botox is a great solution for softening the appearance of your jaw without requiring surgery. Dr. Lee can strategically place Botox injections into the masseter muscles. While botulinum toxin is not strong enough to immobilize the muscles you use to chew, it can weaken them enough that they become less prominent so that the jawline looks more feminine and less boxy.

Are there lines and wrinkles that Botox and Xeomin cannot treat?

Since neurotoxins freeze muscles, wrinkles that have formed due to skin laxity and volume loss in the face rather than muscle movements are not adequately treated with Botox and Xeomin. Fortunately, we offer other injectable treatments for lines — especially those on the lower two-thirds of your face — like dermal fillers. By hydrating and adding fullness to your skin and boosting collagen production, injectables like Juvéderm, Radiesse and Restylane can make significant cosmetic improvements.

What can Botox do for sweating?

Botox has received approval from the FDA for patients with hyperhidrosis (aka excessive sweating). The botulinum toxin effectively obstructs the nerve signals that trigger sweating, which can help people to perspire at a more normal level and reduce the embarrassment that arises from constantly looking wet. For hyperhidrosis, Botox is most often applied to the underarms, but some patients have also found it effective on their hands and feet.

Botox & Xeomin Testimonials

“I started noticing some wrinkles on my forehead and came in for a consultation with Dr. Lee for Botox. He was very helpful and patient with listening to my concerns. I like that he advised me to do a more natural look and not the kind where I won’t be able to raise my eyebrows — that’s definitely not what I want! The procedure was short and fast and I am super happy I went to Dr. Lee. I can’t wait to see him again for my touch ups!”
— Natalie H.

“About five years ago, I began getting Botox in my jaw (masseter muscle) to help with TMJ. It really works to ease the pain and it shrinks the muscle to make my face look thinner. Dr. Lee does this for me all the time and I’ve never had any problems my injections. In fact, I now get Botox injections on my temple, too, to help with headaches.”
— Kate K.

“Dr. Lee is the best! He’s done my Botox and filler and always gets it right. I love the results: so natural and subtle! I have always had such a great experience in his office!”
— Katy J.
